The 6th annual Friends of Aine Kid’s Try-athlon had its largest turnout yet. On Sunday August 19, 325 kids participated in the race, 150 volunteers helped the event run smoothly, pancake breakfast was served to more than 500 and an estimated 1,000 people came to see what the buzz was all about! Our post-race event on Sportsman field had a record number of vendors and fun activities.

The only event of its kind in the area, the Friends of Aine Kid’s Try-athlon was created in memory of Aine Phillips, encompassing the 3 things Aine loved to do all summer: swim, bike and run! The TRY-athlon is a race for all kids ages 4 to 15, no matter their athletic ability. It is an opportunity for kids to experience a race without the pressures of worrying if they can make the distances or not – we’ve designed it so that everyone is triumphant!

  • Ages 4 -10 swim 25 yards, run 1⁄2 mile and bike 1 mile
  • Ages 11 -15 swim 50 yards, run 1 mile and bike 2 miles

Proceeds from the event fund the Good Grief bereavement programs for children and teens that have suffered a significant loss. The growth of this event has allowed Friends of Aine to expand our grief support programs to reach more children and families in the greater Manchester area.

We think of this event as a tribute to Aine, as a fundraiser for Friends of Aine AND as an opportunity to get kids moving. We like to believe that the race is helping kids help themselves, while at the same time helping other kids. It’s a win-win!!

This event would not be possible without the support of our community and generosity of our sponsors. Thank you to the 2018 Friends of Aine Kid’s Try-athlon Sponsors:
